Passive scent lures
Commercial lure monitors may imitate harbourage odours or other cues. Check whether lures are included, how long they last and whether refills are readily available before comparing pack prices.
Carbon-dioxide monitors
Research has shown that carbon-dioxide release rate can affect catches and that a lure can increase catch in some tested systems. Active monitors can be more useful in unoccupied rooms but bring cost and setup complexity.
Occupied rooms are different
A sleeping person is already a strong source of heat, carbon dioxide and odour. Follow the manufacturer’s exact placement instructions rather than assuming more attractant is always better.
Do not improvise unsafe sources
Do not use dry ice, gas cylinders or fermentation mixtures in a bedroom without a validated product design and appropriate safety expertise.
